This is because the State is responsible for subsidize a large percentage of the cost. However, there is a lot of help for different groups of people with dependency.
For example, in this publication we are going to address a topic that worries many people: know if people with disabilities pay for medicines. And in that sense, the Ministry of Health offers facilities for people with a certain degree of diagnosed disability.
Can you save on medications if you are disabled?
The short answer is yes, although there is a but, since Not all disabled people can receive the same type of benefit, since this depends on your type of disability and its degrees. Don't worry, we explain it to you below.
Types of handicap
Nowadays, although they are not the same, we tend to confuse handicap with disability. However, they are two concepts that go hand in hand, since for example, according to the Official State Gazette (BOE), the degree of disability is determined by evaluating the person's percentage of disability.
There arefour types of handicap as dictated by the International Classification of Functioning (ICF) of disability and health. This was approved in 2021 by all the countries that make up the World Health Organization (WHO).
After this classification, the four types of handicaps or disabilities are the following:
Physical or motor disability
Physical disability affects people who They cannot function in this area on their own.. Either because they are missing a limb or some problem that prevents them from moving normally.
Sensory disability
Sensory capacity is that which affects people who, for one reason or another, have lost, or do not have, visual or hearing ability and are affected when communicating with others.
Intellectual disability
People affected by intellectual disabilities are all those who have limitations in carrying out daily activities. Their cognitive process is also inferior and themit is more difficult to learn, understand and communicate.
Mental disability
Mental disability is something different from the previous ones, since it is directly related to the behavior of the individual. Some of the causes that cause mental disability are depression, schizophrenia, or bipolarity, among others.
Do people with disabilities have to pay for their medications?
Returning to the topic of this post, people with disabilities have to pay for your medications only when they are diagnosed and do not exceed 33% of the degree of disability.
That is, people with a degree of disability greater than 33% will be exempt from contributing to pharmaceutical benefits.
